Since the 1700's Australia had been a British penal colony where the baddest of the bad were sent to serve their life sentences and plague England no more. One of the last bushrangers and by far the most famous, Ned Kelly stood defiantly as the most notorious outlaw in a colony spawned with them.
Being wanted by the law was a hazardous occupation, so when Kelly decided he and his gang needed a special kind of PPE, they started stealing plough parts in addition to bank notes and bonds. Hammering them into quarter-inch steel helmets, breastplates and skirts, they were heavy enough to deflect the firepower of sheriffs and detectives. He'd turned his men into a gang of bullet-proof warriors.
